With all the ads and commercials and educational tools that are available, why are people still not protecting themselves? How can STD’s still be on the rise in particular Syphilis? Is it so hard to strap it up? Ladies you can suggest this as well. If the guy says no you have the right to exercise the same option. What about really getting to know someone first and don’t feel bad if you want a clean bill of health. You two can go and get tested before you decide to engage in sexually activity. It’s for their benefit just as much as it’s for yours. It’s okay to wait. In this day in age of so much promiscuity waiting is the safest bet. In any case here is some info I think everyone should know. Know your risk. You can contract syphilis just by kissing someone who’s infected. And anyone who has unprotected sex — particularly men who have sex with other men — is at risk of infection. Get tested to prevent serious complications. Without treatment, syphilis bacteria can spread and lead to serious internal organ damage and even death years after the original infection. So it’s important to get tested if you have signs of infection. Protect yourself from infection. Short of abstinence, using latex condoms is the surest way to protect yourself against STDs. Do you use condoms correctly? Get tested for other STDs. Many people who contract STDs have no signs or symptoms. That’s why it’s important to get tested regularly. Talk to your doctor about how often you should be screened.
