Lumière
Location: Vancouver, Canada
Head chef: Rob Feenie
Cost: $85-$110 CAD ($80-$105 USD)
Headed by Rob Feenie, TV cooking-show host and winner on the North American Iron Chef, this Vancouver restaurant is considered one of the best in Canada. They have several tasting menus to choose from, including a vegetarian option, and they range from 8 to 10 courses.
They specialize in “sophisticated French cuisine.” You’ll be treated to dishes such as short rib ravioli and butter poached Atlantic lobster. The portions can be as small as bite-sized, but they are all presented as mini-monuments that bring out the natural colors of the food, decorating your plate with tasty reds and greens.
Menu highlight: You’ll hear many raves about the chocolate and beet fondant. Espelette pepper ice cream is the standout piece of this dish. Getting a hit of spiciness from your ice cream might take some getting used to, but you’ll quickly love it.
